James H. “Woodbutcher” Herb, 81, of Palmyra passed away Saturday, January 21, 2012 at the Lebanon VA Medical Center.

Born June 11, 1930 in Orwigsburg, he was a son of the late Ray and Alverta (Reed) Herb. A 1948 graduate of the Hershey Industrial School; he was a U. S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. After serving in the Navy, he worked in construction and later was owner of Lebanon Valley Kitchens, Palmyra. He was an outstanding craftsman, known for his unique designing of cabinets and furniture, and as a hobby became interested in carving canes and walking sticks. He was a member of the American National Cane Club where the club donated many canes to disabled veterans. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years Betty Mae (Reber) Herb; daughters Linda Mae, wife of James Horstick and Brenda Jean, wife of Mike Miller all of Lebanon; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brother Otis, husband of Edna Herb of Reading; sisters Elsie Erk of Colorado and June, wife of William Ebbert of Florida. He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 26, 2012 at Buse Funeral Home, 145 North Grant Street, Palmyra. Interment, with military honors, will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
