Hiram Shearer
Hiram “Pete” Shearer, 96, of Hershey passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 in the M. S. Hershey Medical Center. He was born in Elizabethtown on November 25, 1920 a son of the late Hiram, Sr. and Mary Shearer.
When Hiram was 10 years old his father died and he was enrolled in the Hershey Industrial School from which he graduated in 1938 when he was one of the few whose diploma was personally handed to him by Mr. Hershey. Pete was a WWII Army veteran where he served in the Army Air Corp. In 1948 he married his wife of 60 years, the late Elizabeth (Hess) Shearer and for many years he and his wife operated Shearer’s Pastry Shop on East Derry Road in Hershey. Upon his retirement from the bake shop, he became a Bakery Instructor at the Lebanon County Vocational Technical School. Pete was also employed for 18 years at the Royer’s Flower Shop in Hershey. He was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Hershey where he served many years as Head Usher.
Surviving are his son; Peter M. Shearer of Hershey; sisters in law; Barbara Hess of Oak Island, NC and Judith Hess of Hershey; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by 3 sisters and a brother. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 11:00am in the Hoover Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. in Hershey. Friends will be received from 10:30am until time of service. Interment will be in the Hershey Cemetery.
