George A. Filepas, 89, of Chambers Hill, died Sunday, December 27, 2009 in his home.

He was a graduate of Milton S. Hershey High School, an Army veteran of World War II and a retired Senior Manufacturing Engineer for AMP, Inc.

He was a member of St. Nicholas Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church, Oberlin, where he served as Church Board President for 7 years and was a Church Board member for 40 years. He was also the first Superintendent of St. Nicholas Sunday School.

He was Past Chairman of the American Society of Manufacturing Engineers, a Board Member of Milton S. Hershey Alumni Assn., where he received the Alumni Service Award in 1987.

He was a member of the Serbian American Civic and Education Club, the Mountain Rod & Gun Club, Nimrods Club, Lawnton American Legion Post 998, and a member of the Board of Directors of Cottee Industries, New Port Richey, FL.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Mary A. “Amy” Dmitrovich Filepas; two daughters-in-law, JoAnn McCormick Filepas of South Hanover Twp. and Chris Larkin of State College; four grandchildren, Ellen Marie Filepas-Long and her husband, Duke of Fairview Twp., Michael A. Filepas, Jr. of Lower Paxton Twp., Laurie Ann Filepas-Brosius and her husband, Michael of Palmyra and Richard K. Filepas of Clearwater, FL; five great grandchildren, Alex, Evan, Calvin and Clark Filepas and Parker Brosius; one brother, Levi Filepas of Dillsburg.

George was preceded in death by his two sons, Richard A. Filepas and Michael A. Filepas and one brother, Michael Filepas.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 31, 2009 at 11:00 am in St. Nicholas Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church, Oberlin with Very Rev. Stavrofor Srboljub Jockovich, his pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Churchville Cemetery, Oberlin.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday from 7:00 until 9:00 pm in Wiedeman Funeral Home, 357 S. Second St., Steelton. Pomen will be held at 7:30 pm.
