Franklin E. Dechert
Franklin E. Dechert, 88, of Lebanon, died Thursday, October 30, 2014, at Spang Crest Manor of Lebanon.
He and his late wife Margaret E. Dechert were married in 1947. Born in Swatara Township, he was a son of the late George R. Dechert and Martha Dechert.
He worked at Harpel’s Inc. for most of his career and later by Esselte Pendaflex. Franklin was a dedicated member of Optimist International (OI) for more than 50 years, held many leadership positions in Lebanon’s club, and was Governor of OI’s Delaware-Pennsylvania District.
He served in World War II’s Pacific Theater in the U.S. Navy. He was a graduate of the Hershey Industrial School, a life-long member of the Cornwall U.M. Church, and an avid golfer.
Franklin is survived by his sister, Marion; his daughter, Dr. JoAnne Youngblut and her husband, Bill of Weston, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Alex and Alicia Youngblut. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Lester, George, and Ralph Dechert.
