Albert Lehman
Albert H. Lehman Sr., 88, of Tulpehocken Street, Pine Grove, passed away Friday, August 5, 2011 at Tremont Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Pine Grove, May 20, 1923, he was a son of the late Albert F. and Mabel Hommes Lehman. He was a 1941 graduate of Milton S. Hershey High School.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, having been a private first class and serving with the 16th Infantry Replacement Depot.
He served in Europe and received the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon.
Albert did foundry work at Quaker Alloy, Myerstown, and then worked as a boilermaker for various plants.
He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Pine Grove, Pine Grove VFW Post 3432 and Pine Grove Veterans Honor Guard.
He played adult softball in Pine Grove and was a manager for Lions and Bartos in the Pine Grove Little League. He volunteered taking care of the grounds at the baseball Little League field, VFW, American Legion and St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. He also put the flags along Tulpehocken Street for the holidays.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Herring. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Ruth M. Hummel Lehman; a son, Albert Lehman Jr.; a grandson, Zachary Lehman; a sister, Mabel Zerbe, all of Pine Grove; a sister-in-law, Grace McAllister; Palmyra; nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, with Dr. Ira Lydic officiating. There will be a calling time from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Hetzel’s Cemetery, Pine Grove.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions be made in his memory to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 19 E. Pottsville St., P.O. Box 68, Pine Grove, PA 17963.
